Part of my property turns into a stream whenever it rains. What can I do about this?
Subdivisions built during the last several years have had detailed drainage plans designed as part of the approval process. These plans control how rainfall moves from the various properties into the storm water system without risk of flooding. A common element to the design is a swale - a shallow depression which collects and directs runoff towards the road. During rainfalls, these swales will fill with water that runs off of the roof of the house and the yards and direct it to the road where it can drain into the storm water sewer system. A homeowner should never alter the grading of the swales. Doing this could result in runoff being directed towards the house and cause flooding. |
