I can't find my survey bars, even though they are shown on the survey I got from the builder. Where are they?
During the construction of a new subdivision, the legal survey iron bars, which mark the property corners, are removed and reset at various times throughout the development of the subdivision. As underground utilities, road and sewers are installed, a high percentage of the legal survey iron bars, which mark the front property corners, are removed by the various contractors. Also, when the excavation for a new house takes place, the contractor usually places the soils around the foundation. We locate the as-built dwelling and prepare the survey plan when the dwelling is at the bare foundation stage before framing begins. After the dwelling is built, the lot is graded, and during this process the survey iron bars, once again, tend to get removed.
